JUNE 2008 

Throughout June – Cayman Sevens

The Cayman Islands' International Sevens rugby competition, at the Truman Bodden International Sports Stadium in George Town, is a highlight of the international rugby sevens circuit and attracts teams from around the world. Website: www.cisevens.com
 
Queens Birthday celebrations  

To honor the British heritage of the Cayman Islands, the queen's birthday is celebrated every year in George Town on Grand Cayman. The streets of the capital are filled with a full military dress parade, there is a 21-gun salute, and you can attend an open house and garden reception at Government House. Third week of June - Cayman Island International Aviation Week 

This annual air show, off Grand Cayman, includes aerial feats, displays, safety seminars, and a "fly-in" to Cayman Brac. 

21st to 28th June - Rogest Art Down Under Week

If you are into diving and art, then this is the week for you! Hosted by Ron Stephen, internationally renown marine artist, its fun filled with morning diving, afternoon painting (beginners and pros are invited!), evening wine and cheese hours from around the world and an auction of one of your original canvases. Your inspiration will come from the ocean with a little help from Rogest, mixed in with some sand and salt water for texture and your creation will raise fund for the Coral Reef Awareness Program for children in Cayman! The plan is simple, to have fun, dive and paint. We promise you it will be an experience you will not forget. Hosted at Divetech and Cobalt Coast Resort in Grand Cayman with freedom, adventure and safety in a friendly island setting being the backdrop.

1st weekend in July - Taste of Cayman 

This event, taking place on Grand Cayman, is the "eatfest" of the islands, showcasing a sampling of different cuisines from more than 40 restaurants. 1st July to 31st August – A Blue Iguana Safari! 

Come and meet the Blues! This one and a half hour fully guided tour takes you behind the scenes at the captive breeding facility and out into the forest and gardens of the park in search of our free roaming animals.

1st July to 31st August – Interpretation through Photography 

Children can enjoy and learn about our cultural heritage as we visit the traditional homes on Boggy Sand Road though a camera lens! The trip will begin with a short presentation by Denise Bodden, Historic Programmes Manager, at the Trust office on South Church Street. Children are invited to bring their own cameras or one will be provided for you from the Camera Store. Chose your favorite photograph and it will be displayed at the Camera Store in George Town for a month. Join us the Camera Store to display the photographs and share your experience. Please call for reservations, space is limited.

July (date TBA) – Cayman Brac Family week 

The annual Cayman Brac Family Week provides a variety of interesting and fun activities in beautiful surroundings.
After a tour of Cayman Brac, it becomes clear that its abundant natural wonders make it a genuine island paradise. Activities offered during the week include bird watching, slide shows, painting and crafts, balloon tying, star gazing, a scavenger hunt, snorkelling and cruises.

1st July to 31st August – Mangrove exploration Program 

An interactive program that allows children to identify each of our mangrove species. An easy walk takes us along the mongroves and then a fun, educational activity to follow. We will meet at the Trust House to begin the adventure. Please call for reservations, space is limited.

4th July to 7th July – Cayman Islands Grand Slam 

International Martial Arts Championships.

In 2007, the Grand Slam was held in Vancouver, Canada and hosted over 300 sports martial arts competitors (not including their supporters).

The Cayman Islands was well represented by a team of 21 athletes, who won a number of top positions At that event the Cayman Islands applied for and won the bid to host the 2008 Grand Slam. Countries represented this year will include: Trinidad & Tobago, Dominica, Jamaica and other Caribbean countries, and schools from Western Canada as well as Florida, Boston and New York in the USA.

5th July to 12th July and 12th July to 19th July - Kids Sea Camp at Cobalt Coast

For the fifth year, Divetech at Cobalt Coast Resort will host the Kids Sea Camp in Grand Cayman. Its 2 weeks in the summertime dedicated to families with children. While parents are out exploring the walls and reefs of Cayman with diving freedom, the kids are enrolled in water-based programs learning to dive! The programs are fully supervised by Dive Instructors and action packed including marine identification, conservation, photography, art, underwater scooters, turtles and tons more! As our ambassadors of the sea for future generations, the children are taught to love the water and respect the marine creatures. It’s a jam packed week that fun for the whole family including Sasy, Seals, Jr. Open water, Advanced Open Water, National Geographic Diver and Adventure diver options for the kids.

Early October (date TBA) - International Scuba-Diving Hall of Fame 

Some of the leading scuba divers in the world show up for this annual ceremony at The Harquail Theatre on Grand Cayman. Entertainment at the event includes audiovisual presentations of scuba-diving feats, live music by local bands, and a food-and-cocktail reception. NOVEMBER 2008 

1st November to 22nd November – 31st Annual Pirates Week National Festival 

This is a national festival in which cutlass-bearing pirates and sassy wenches storm George Town, capture the governor, throng the streets, and stage a costume parade. The celebration, which is held throughout the Caymans, pays tribute to the nation's past and its cultural heritage. Second week of November - CITA Wet Fest 

This is Grand Cayman's annual festival of watersports, including snorkeling, parasailing, and kayaking. Kiosks sell island food, live bands entertain, and wave-runner rides are offered. 21st November to 29th November 2008 – International Story Telling Festival 

What could be more romantic than sitting under the stars on a Cayman Island beach, listening to professional storytellers recounting traditional tales? The Gimistory festival will have you laughing, crying and may even scare the living daylights out of you.
The festival covers all forms of storytelling, including ghost stories, comical stories and stories acted out through calypso, mime and dance. In 2007, 15 storytellers from around the world, including Brazil, Jamaica and New York, had crowds captivated. The shows take place at various scenic venues around the islands, including on the beach.

The Arts Cayman website publishes full details of this year's programme as soon as they are available.


DECEMBER 2008 

December date TBA – Cayman Islands Marathon 

The Cayman Islands Marathon takes place each December in George Town.
The race route is flat, fast and IAAF-sanctioned, ensuring ideal running conditions. There is even live steel drum music along the way to motivate competitors and add some Caribbean flavour to the proceedings. The course runs through the financial district of George Town, along the beautiful waterfront and through some of the island's most pleasant neighbourhoods. The day features a marathon, half-marathon and relay race. 

4th December to 6th December – 5th annual Cayman Jazz Festival 

Nothing can beat good music in a magical atmosphere. Join music enthusiasts from around the world on one of the most beautiful places on earth; the Cayman Islands. Jazz Fest begins December 4th and continues through December 6th.
